Monica, Tevin Campbell, Tamar Braxton and More Tapped for R&B Music Experience Tour

Category:

Monica, Tevin Campbell, Tamar Braxton and many more R&B veterans will be hitting the road this fall for the R&B Music Experience Tour.

Presented by Global Events Production, the 18-city tour will kick off Oct. 1 in Atlanta, Georgia, at State Farm Arena.

From there, the singers will perform in U.S. cities, including Charlotte, Chicago, Miami, Dallas, New Orleans and Nashville. The tour concludes Dec. 17 at Amalie Arena in Tampa, FL.

Other R&B acts booked for the tour include 112, Bell Biv DeVoe, Bobby Brown, Dru Hill, Ginuwine, H-Town, Keith Sweat, Next, Raheem DeVaughn, Shai, Silk and Xscape.

While Monica is sure to revisit some of her classic songs and fan favorites, it wouldn’t be a surprise if she performs her latest single “Friends,” which features Ty Dolla $ign. The Tasha Catour-produced song will appear on Monica’s forthcoming album, Trenches.

Of the song, Monica explained, “‘Friends’ is about keeping people in their place and handling your own relationship.”

“Friends” was released nearly a year after Monica shared her Lil Baby-assisted single “Trenches.” Monica isn’t just focused on R&B. The legendary singer also is working on her debut country album titled Open Roads. She enlisted Brandi Carlile to executive produce the album.

“I felt like this was a great time for me to really step into an area that I’ve always admired and loved,” Monica told Billboard about recording a country project. “We’re just getting started, but I have so enjoyed it and been welcomed with open arms.”

New doc Thirst Trap launches on Tubi and Amazon

Category:

Atlanta-born filmmaker and music artist Sensei Chop’s first film, the documentary Thirst Trap, has launched this month on Tubi, Amazon Prime and other streaming platforms.

Chop directed, produced, wrote, edited, narrated and served as director of photography of the important film that sheds light on the ‘water boy’ culture in Atlanta, Georgia.

“Two things I’m very passionate about is storytelling and my home city of Atlanta. Growing up, we would spend hours on the block every day telling all types of stories. It didn’t matter if the stories were new, old or exaggerated, we just loved hearing and telling them. I think that’s a universal thing when building bonds, storytelling,” comments Chop.

The film features Meka Pless, the mother of Jalaani, her only son, a water boy who was fatally shot over ten dollars, as well as water boy entrepreneurs Joshua Dixion and Quintez Dixion.

“This film, which is my first, combines the two things I’m passionate about. Between my car being stolen and my mom going missing for a week, it would be an understatement to say I went through some things while creating this documentary but now it’s done. It’s a dope feeling to be able to share an Atlanta story with the world, told my way,” Chop adds.

An accomplished music artist, Thirst Trap marks Chop’s first major film project. A pivotal part of Chop’s artistry relies on his unique ability to combine his passion for rap with film. Where others have to focus on one outlet to express themselves, he is lucky enough to blend both elements with little to no effort.

Pirates upend Rams in topsy-turvy, 5-set thriller

Category:

PEMBROKE — For two hours and 15 minutes Tuesday night, the tension slowly built between the Lumberton and Purnell Swett volleyball teams. Finally, after a five-set marathon, it erupted — with cheers and screams from the maroon-clad side of the gym after the Pirates earned the thrilling victory.

Lumberton beat Purnell Swett 3-2, with a back-and-forth fifth set serving as a microcosm for what the entire match had been.

“Happy at one point, mad Purnell is beating us. Back-and-forth with our rivals,” Lumberton outside hitter Alona Hanna said. “Everybody knows Purnell and Lumberton always go at it, and they fight it out to the end. It was back and forth, but we came out on top for everything.”

After winning the first and third sets, Lumberton (7-5, 2-4 United-8 Conference) jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the fifth; Purnell Swett (6-9, 2-5 United-8) took the lead after consecutive aces by Georgia Locklear, and extended that lead to 12-9, completing a 10-2 run.

“(Georgia Locklear) has a really competitive serve, when it’s in play,” Purnell Swett coach Corey Deese said. “They were feeling it. It’s Lumberton, it’s their biggest game of the year, it always is, and you’ve got to fight, and you keep fighting to the end. We didn’t get the outcome we wanted, but they fought.”

“We motivated them as much as we could,” Lumberton coach Kali Carter said. “We called timeout, we told them, hey, you’re playing down to their level, they are a good team but we know we can play at at a higher level than them. I was like, just put out what you’ve been putting in in practice, produce the effort you’ve been putting in.”

Lumberton came back to tie the set at 13-13, then took the lead for good on a kill by Hanna.

PREMIERE: Listen To Georgia Fields’ Soaring Ballad ‘Tigress’

Category:

Singer-songwriter Georgia Fields’ third single of 2022, ‘Tigress’, is a slow-building, sentimental alt-pop cut that we’re premiering on Music Feeds ahead of its official arrival this Thursday, 8th September. Foregrounding Fields’ soaring vocals, ‘Tigress’ is sparsely arranged but effective, featuring electric guitar chords, a mixture of live and electronic percussion and an Omnichord.
The track is filled out with keyboard sounds from Fields’ trusty Casiotone 501, which the singer-songwriter has been touring with for years. “It’s not much longer than an A3 sheet of paper and it’s a temperamental little beast, but I love it to pieces,” Fields said in a statement.

Jason Aldean explains why Macon, Georgia is such a personal album title: “It all started there”

Category:

ABC
Jason Aldean kicks off his Rock N’ Roll Cowboy Tour tonight in Scranton, Pennsylvania, beginning an extensive string of dates that will give him a chance to introduce fans to the live version of his latest double album, Macon, Georgia.
That project — his 10th — is named after the singer’s hometown Macon, which Jason says had a massive impact on his eventual career as a country star.
“It all started there,” he recounts. “…That’s where I learned to play guitar and where I learned to sing and where I played bars for the first time.”
At the time, Jason wasn’t even old enough to drink, but he fell in with a group of older musicians who taught him everything he knows about jam sessions and playing late nights in bars on small stages.
“When I was a 15, 16 year old kid, guys — you know, other musicians in that town — kinda took me under their wing and would take me to these after-hours bars and have jam sessions,” he recounts. “When I had to be at school the next day. So I was getting home at three in the morning.”
Jason may have lost a little sleep, but he learned important lessons about his chosen career path during those long nights out.
“It was just kind of where I learned to be a musician. It’s just where it all started for me,” he says, explaining that it felt only fitting to mark that early memory in the title of his landmark 10th album. “It was me kind of paying tribute to where it all started from.”
Jason just released his latest country radio single, “That’s What Tequila Does.” The song comes off the Macon half of his double album.
