BaT Auction: 1,400-Mile 2006 Ducati SportClassic Sport 1000 at No Reserve

This 2006 Ducati SportClassic Sport 1000 was sold new at Canyon Ridge Cycle of Alpharaetta, Georgia, in December 2005, and it was acquired by its current owner in 2006, reportedly from its original owner. The bike is finished in yellow with black stripes and is powered by a 992cc desmodromic L-Twin paired with a six-speed transmission. Equipment includes Marelli electronic fuel injection, an inverted Marzocchi fork, an adjustable Sachs monoshock, triple Brembo disc brakes, 17″ alloy rims, clip-on handlebars, bar-end mirrors, a monoposto tail section, and a side stand. Work in preparation for the sale included replacing the spark plugs and changing the oil. This Sport 1000 shows 1,400 miles and is offered at no reserve on dealer consignment with manufacturer’s literature, the original purchase and warranty registration form, red and black keys, a code card, service records, and a clean Georgia title.

The SportClassic series was comprised of five vintage-themed models designed by Pierre Terblanche, and the Sport 1000 was styled after the 1973 750 Sport. This example’s four-gallon fuel tank, front fender, and monoposto tail section are finished in yellow with a black center stripe and vintage Ducati logos. Additional features include a black steel trellis frame, dual chrome horns, street lighting, a black solo seat, alloy rear-set foot controls, and a side stand. The turn signals are stock-style replacements.

Wire-spoke wheels laced with silver-finished 17″ alloy rims wear Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp tires showing 2005 date codes. Adjustable suspension is comprised of a 43mm inverted Marzocchi fork as well as a piggyback Sachs monoshock spanning the frame and the left leg of the swingarm. Braking is provided by Brembo four-piston calipers over dual 320mm rotors up front and a single 245mm rotor with a dual-piston Brembo caliper at the rear.

Clip-on handlebars equipped with chrome bar-end mirrors are secured beneath the polished upper triple clamp. White-dial instrumentation consists of a 160-mph speedometer and an 11k-rpm tachometer, each with an inset digital display. The digital odometer shows 1,400 miles.

The 992cc Dual Spark L-twin features overhead camshafts, two desmodromic valves per cylinder, Marelli electronic fuel injection, an oil cooler, and a black two-into-two exhaust system. Service in preparation for the sale included replacing the spark plugs and changing the oil.

Power is sent to the rear wheel through a multi-disc dry clutch, a six-speed transmission, and a drive chain.
